Strengthening Families - Middle School
Looking for middle school student (5th-8th grade) opportunities during throughout the year? Programs include the following conditions:
- May have Limited numbers – some programs are limited in the numbers of participants. Once it fills up we won’t have any more room. Please check to see if you need to register!
- See below for one-time, weekly, or monthly programming, which is subject to change.
- All school rules apply!
- No fees for programming.

To participate in ANY Strengthening Families middle school activities, every parent/guardian needs to fill out our Teen Participant Permission Form.
STEMPOSSIBLE MIDDLE SCHOOL CLUB
Every Thursday from 3:00pm - 5:00pm
Sixth through Eighth graders will discover the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) around them in a fun club atmosphere. STEMPossible club members will build robots, travel to different work sites to see STEM in action (to see how cars are built, hydraulics work) and celebrate in June with a trip to COSI!! Students are expected to attend as many Thursday clubs meetings as possible....as STEMPossible!

AFTERSCHOOL MIDDLE SCHOOL TEEN ROOM DROP-IN
Every Wednesday YEAR ROUND from 3:00pm-6:00pm
Sixth through eighth grade students are invited to spend their afternoon in the Teen Room for games, open study, and special activities. Don't forget to fill out our permission form before attending an open Teen Room. Click here for the permission form!
Dempsey students have the opportunity to engage in all things Anime with an emphasis on Japanese language (written & spoken), food, and discussing anime. Led by two sixth grade students, Delaware County Librarian and United Way staff, this unique club meets twice a month.

BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS at Willis

D&D ADVENTURER'S LEAGUE (6th through 8th grade students)
Next session occurs January 22nd through March 19 EVERY TUESDAY (registration required, limited number of students)
Dungeons & Dragons After School Adventures is part creative writing and part mystical journey through our own imaginations! This game combines the classic role-playing game developed in the 1970s with modern technology and creative learning opportunities. Develop a character, build a back story and then start a quest with your fellow adventurers. This session is limited to 12 students. 2019 session registration will post in January.
GIRLS ON THE RUN (6th through 8th graders)
Next session occurs March 4th through May 18th EVERY TUESDAY & THURSDAY from 3:00pm - 4:30pm (registration required, limited number of students)
Sixth through eighth grade girls are invited to be a part of the Girls on the Run Heart & Sole program (girlsontheruncentralohio.org) at the Strengthening Families Hub in the Willis Education Center Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3pm – 4:30pm. As a team, we’ll run, laugh and connect! Registration is a lottery process.
GROUP SIZE IS LIMITED! Girls must attend both days of programming and be picked up on time from each meeting. Program Fees sponsored by United Way of Delaware County.
The first Wednesday of every month middle school students can experience simple yoga poses, breath work, and beginning meditation. This class encourages tweens and teens to cultivate a flexibility of the body, mind, and spirit, and see the positive in themselves and others. If you have your own yoga mat, feel free to bring it or a yoga mat will be supplied.

Free mental health drop-in services are available in the Wellness Room at the Willis Education Center These services include prevention practices designed to inform, educate, demonstrate skills, and reduce risk behaviors in youth. Clinicians are available to assist in teaching social skills, healthy decision making, and refusal or “saying no” skills. Call (740) 417-4733 to talk with A CLINICIAN from Syntero Counseling.
